The Split-the-Plate recipient for May is the Scarboro 85 Monument. In 1955, Oak Ridge and 85 courageous young students from the Scarboro Community made history, becoming the first public school district in the Southeast to desegregate. The goal is to create a truly striking and original monument for Bissell Park to honor those students, to inspire us, and to convey who we are to the many visitors and workers who come to Oak Ridge. The placement of the Scarboro 85 Memorial in Bissell Park in proximity and in harmony with the Friendship Bell Peace Pavilion emphasizes the strong relationship between them, thus further elevating the status of the park as a major stop along the Civil Rights Trail and Oak Ridge as a place that champions peace and justice. ORUUC has always been a supporter of equality and the rights of all. We need to step up and do the right thing. We can never forget. Please GIVE HERE as you are willing and able, or text “ORUUC” to 73256.

After the service, you're invited to join in coffee and conversation in the Social Hall. Youth Faith Formation classes have recessed for the summer. Adult Faith Formation classes normally take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Check out our regular Faith Formation opportunities for adults here: http://www.oruuc.org/faith-formation-for-adults and children and youth here: http://www.oruuc.org/religious-education. The nursery is available during worship and second hour.

Masks are not required in the building; however, they are available, along with hand sanitizer, in various locations throughout the church. We encourage you to assess your personal risks and do what makes you feel comfortable, whether that means wearing a mask or worshiping with ORUUC from home on Zoom. We ask that if you have symptoms or have had a COVID exposure, please stay home and join us on Zoom. For more information on Covid, visit the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html. We appreciate your continued cooperation as we work to keep our community safe and healthy.

All are welcome! We look forward to seeing you!
