We live in a culture that applauds self-sufficiency. In truth, we all depend on others

all of our lives. What we eat and wear, where we live, how we get from one place

to another each day—and more— depends on other people, most of whom we will

never know. Humans are relational beings, meant to know others and be known.

We need each other to survive. We are stronger and more fully ourselves together.

At ORUUC, we are intentional about caring for one another. When you join this

community, you have opportunities to both give and receive care. We walk with

one another through good times, challenges, and loss, all of which are part of life.

No one at ORUUC walks alone.

How We Care

Share a joy or sorrow with a minister, or with the entire congregation, by emailing joysandsorrows@oruuc.org. Church staff send thoughts shared publicly in our monthly Joys & Sorrows newsletter emailed to Members and Friends.

The Caring Network

ORUUC Caring Coordinators arrange support for members of the church whose needs cannot be met within their small group. Coordinators send cards, help with transportation, provide meals, and generally make sure that no one goes without church support. Each coordinator serves two months each year—one month as the co-lead (sending greeting cards and supporting the lead, as needed), and as the lead (coordinating care for church members).

Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026 at 11:45 a.m., our minister, Lóre, will lead Spiritual Care Team training. Whether you’re already on the team or are just curious, we encourage you to come learn more about the actual literal art of spiritual care. If you are a good listener, this is the volunteer role for you! Please note: This is an essential training. Only those who have gone through this training can continue to serve on the Spiritual Care Team. Lóre plans to repeat the training every few months. Saturday's training will follow the ORUUC Spiritual Care & Caring Committee monthly check-in (First Saturdays) in the Social Hall. The Spiritual Care Team are those that listen when someone is going through a hard time; the Caring Committee includes those who provide material support like meals, rides, and cards.

At ORUUC, we say,
“Rooted in love, growing together.”
Jesus did not say, “Love your neighbors.”
He said, “Love your neighbors as yourself.”
Our shared journey at ORUUC involves helping each other develop spiritual practices and health habits that enable each person to take care and to ground their lives in love, day to day.
